Takht: Karan Johar Scared Of Being Compared To Sanjay Leela Bhansali
During a conversation on a digital platform, Karan Johar revealed that he is scared of being compared to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is a master in making period films, like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat
A few days back, Karan Johar’s sudden announcement of Takht on social media took everyone by surprise. The film, which is a periodic drama and compromises of an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor (who will share the screen space for the first time), Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Chacha-Bhatiji duo, Anil Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor. Takht is KJo's first period drama and is said to be based on Mughal era. As we all know Karan has never attempted a period film before and this is a huge project based on history. And then there is Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has mastered the act of period filmmaking. So, it's but obvious for comparisons to be drawn. Recently, Karan confessed that he is scared of being compared to Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
While talking on a digital platform, Karan Johar revealed that why is he scared, "I would be lying if I didn’t admit that the comparison is very challenging. I love Sanjay’s aesthetic. The comparison scares me but I hope I can find my own voice. I hope I’m not doomed by comparison. I’m just recovering from Sairat and I can’t go there again. I also don’t want to be overwhelmed by it."
For those who’ve come in late, Bebo and Ranveer will share screen space for the first time in Takht. While Ranveer and Alia have worked together in a few TV ads and will next be seen in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, Kareena and Alia too have worked together before in Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab. As for Karan being scared of comparisons with SLB, well, although Karan is a fantastic filmmaker, yet this time the competition will be tough as he will be working out of his comfort zone.
